“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Value of Things
It’s really easy to take something for granted, isn’t it? We often take our spouses or family for granted, most of us take our jobs for granted, or maybe that we’ll have a home to go to at the end of the day… There are just so many things in life that once we have them for a little while, we sort of expect that they will always be there and in the way we’re used to. Did you ever see a story in the news about a plant closing? Inevitably there will be someone quoted as saying that they put in something like 20 or 30 years there and never saw it coming. Someone else who might be about to lose their home suddenly becomes concerned about it and thinks of how nice it is to have one when faced with the possibility of having it taken away from them.
The above paragraph should be viewed as a flashing red warning light for us. If when we see the value in people and things only at our time of loss of- then it seems we ought to re-evaluate how important those people and things are in our lives. We’re not talking about going out and buying insurance, however. We’re talking about changing our attitude from one of believing the status-quot won’t change to being grateful, genuinely grateful, for what we have. Why do that? Many folks might think it’s just about realizing how blessed we are- and while that is important- it’s not the only reason we want to do this.
The Law of Attraction acts on our grateful thoughts. Gratitude is an emotional attitude and the law responds to that emotion. Taking something or someone for granted means that we fail to see the value that the thing or person brings to us. If we don’t value something or someone, then the law is much more likely to respond by separating us from it or them. Why? Because in many respects we’ve already done just that with our feelings.
The attitude of gratitude is one of the strongest tools we have in regard to having the law work in our favor and not against us. Likewise, taking someone or something for granted will often result in loss and sorrow. Let’s keep the positive vibes going and let’s treat who and what we love with respect and honor. Take a little time daily and feel the feelings of gratitude, your life will be richer for it.
