“You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.” – Michael Jordan

See Yourself As…
Most of us have something we’d like to change about ourselves. Is that you? If it is, you don’t want to miss this Nugget. Desiring change is awesome, it’s really the first step we need to go through along the way of actually changing ourselves for the better. After all, if we are complacent with how we are, why change at all? For those that desire change, let’s give some help in that regard.
You are, or rather, you’ll become, whatever you imagine yourself to be. Seeing yourself as confident person does more to make you confident than learning more about whatever it is you want to be confident about. The attitude that one knows what they are doing actually promotes that fact, the doubtfulness people have about themselves instead actually destroys their ability to perform. This is not to say that education is worthless, but rather that an open mind coupled with a great self-image is the best approach to getting one. This is true whether we are being formally educated or learning as we go.
If we see ourselves as kind and loving, then we will grow into that reality much faster than if we see ourselves as petty and uncaring and go through the motions to try and fool everyone into believing we are. Genuinely nice People often do a great many kind and loving things for others, but with the wrong internal attitude, and then are surprised how the people they gave to aren’t appreciative for the gifts bestowed upon them. If we counterfeit love and caring, people actually read that in us more than they notice what’s being given. Far better to develop the belief that we are a loving and caring individual by seeing ourselves that way in the first place.
If we see ourselves as being intelligent, as a person who makes wise choices, then the reality we desire will follow almost by magic. If we say stuff like, “stupid me” or “I’m an idiot” those things will come true within ourselves. When we notice a mistake we made, if instead we pride ourselves on having noticed and thus have an opportunity to correct it or make it right, then the image we’ve painted of ourselves is entirely different, isn’t it?
One point we really want to deliver here for your consideration is this: We are self-directed creatures. Self-directed. We are the ones who get to choose whom we are and what we will be like. No one else has the power to make us be anything we don’t wish to be- unless we grant them that power over us.
Question of the Day to Ask Ourselves
