“If you have much, give of your wealth; If you have little, give of your heart” – Arab Proverb
Daily Nugget of Gold 1254
Who Started All This?
We’re going to go out on a limb here and suggest that people got the idea of gift giving at Christmas from the very Biblical stories passed down for generations. Remember Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh? It’s said that the three wise men or three kings brought these gifts to Jesus. Okay, you know what gold is, but what about the other two? Look it up on Wikipedia, under “Biblical Magi” for an interesting read. Suffice it to say that these gifts were items that were typically traded at the time, even if there may have been a symbolic reason they were given. These items were commercially traded for thousands of years prior to this event in history. Where the items given originated, who knows? They could have been purchased or the the product of slave labor, even.
What about modern-day gift giving? It’s probably true that folks that give gifts today do so out of one or more of the following reasons: Out of love, as a kind gesture, or possibly out of a sense of social or familial obligation. We’re guessing here, but we would bet that a lot of the people objecting the commercialization of Christmas have no real objection to folks giving gifts of love and kindness to the needy, let’s say. Feeding poor people on Christmas is one such gift, giving of toys to charity organizations to distribute is another.
So what about The Law of Attraction in all of this? Whenever we give freely from a heart overflowing with love, we are in the positive vibration we want to be in that will attract wealth of all forms into our lives. If the motive for giving is because a sense of obligation or felt as a painful sacrifice, the negative feelings will hinder that flow. Strange, isn’t it? The thought of giving without return brings a return, where as the thought of giving up something we think we want or need for ourselves, causing us to “do without”, limits our supply by chasing away the means to give more.
It’s very important that we understand that with The Law of Attraction, there is no need to buy anything to give. None, whatsoever. What we give can be totally non-monetary but just as- or even more- meaningful than purchased items or money. Giving friendship, counsel, praising folks for what they do or how they are make wonderful gifts. Sometimes a kind thought written by hand on a scrap of paper means more to someone than a hundred dollar bill could ever mean. A hug when someone feels alone or depressed can have amazing power, if we’d just offer it. Let’s continue this discussion next time and see if we cannot find a way to put more meaning into the holidays and particularly into our lives, shall we?
