“I can live for two months on a good compliment.” – Mark Twain
Daily Nugget of Gold 1359
We stole this title. Yup! We will ask our readers to invest seven minutes or so and look up “Post it short film” on YouTube. We’re not going to spoil it entirely, but we will say this: This little film captures the magic that genuine compliments can have when we use the opportunities we are presented with daily to convey them.
The film alludes to a point we’d like to make now, but does not overtly come out with it. We will. No matter what positive comment we can bestow on another human being, and no matter how great they might feel about what we may have said- their payoff is never as great as ours. It actually can’t be. Sometimes their payoff is massive. Sometimes we utter just the thing they needed to hear and at the exact moment they desperately needed to hear it. It doesn’t matter- our reward is larger. How so?
The Law of Growth. When we sow these positive seeds, our eventual outcome from regularly doing so has to be a harvest somewhere between 10 and 100 times more bountiful than what we sacrificed in effort. Ten times is huge, a hundred times is massive, and the wealth is gathered in our hearts and it radiates outward from there. It begins to flow endlessly into our relationships, into our business ventures, and into all that we do. We become all that and more through this process.
Rather than think of ourselves as being the source of all this good, we might want to think of our role as being the lit match to the campfire, or the seed planted in the ground. We want to give the credit to where we believe it’s truly due, and since we are using a natural law in having this wealth flow into our existence, we want to praise that or- maybe whomever came up with such a wonderful system.
“The greatest compliment that was ever paid me was when one asked me what I thought, and attended to my answer.” – Henry David Thoreau
Take a few minutes out of your busy day and see if this short film might inspire you in the way it inspired us. It offers a unique spin on an old idea, the idea that we can have a positive impact on other people if we just focus our time and effort on doing so. Remember, the feelings you’ll receive will take you to the moon and back. As for them? Maybe a little spring in their step…That’s The Law of Growth for you, giving you the lion’s share of whatever you give. Give nothing? Reap the proportionately large emptiness. Ouch!
